Presenting with PowerPoint

oprah winfrey show chicago
I was asked to make a presentation on The Oprah Winfrey Show in July 1992 and given only 48 hours notice. At the time I was a System Engineer at Apple in Chicago. This invite changed my life. It would change your life too.

Given the immense global audience of Oprah’s show I was simply not prepared to present on just 48 hours notice….48 days notice yes. I utilized this experience as a catalyst for enhancing my presentation skills.

Over the last 25 years, I have helped teach college students how to accurately use PowerPoint. Via professional development workshops on campus, I have helped students develop not only presentation skills but also interviewing experience. Count the number of times you sat through a bad presentation. It can be a painful exercise.

If you interview candidates for opportunities within your organization I am confident you will recall the bad, unprepared candidates. My focus has taught that presenting and job interviewing are very similar in prep and delivery.
