Latest read: Mozart’s Wife

I picked up a couple of books including Mozart’s Wife after a long period (maybe a year) when I spent more time listening to his music than reading about his interesting life.
Mozart’s WifeIn my previous Mozart book post it was great to learn more about him from a scholastic point of view….building upon previous reads….but I came across Mozart’s Wife by Juliet Waldron. Historical fiction and romance?

Giddy sugarplum or calculating bitch? Did I miss author Juliet Waldron on Springer?

Providing a fictional account of Constanze life. Some parts more interesting than others.

Not really compelling enough for me. I may consider Anges Selby’s “Constanze, Mozart’s Beloved” but today I picked up Mozart and the Enlightenment (again) and re-read a chapter about his opera Cosi fan tutte. It is truly a great opera!

Internet2 – Milwaukee

Fall 2006 Internet2 Member Meeting
Ship to Shore: Real-Time Science On Board UW-Milwaukee’s Research Vessel Neeskay
December 06, 2006, 10:30 AM – 11:45 AM
Location: CC11 A

Carmen Aguilar, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Great Lakes Water Institute
Gaye-Lynn Clyde, Underwater Educational Services, Diving Unlimited
Russell Cuhel, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Great Lakes Water Institute
Daniel Gross, SWING

UWM researchThis was a great presentation. First both Carmen and Russell spoke at the K20 Advisory Group Monday in Chicago and then were back in Milwaukee for their remote session via Internet2 video conferencing.

The only down side: waters were too cold and waves too high (7ft to 10ft) for an on-boat remote experience. Yet Carmen and Russell provided DVD playback of pre-recorded segments that made up for the weather restrictions.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee has built a high speed wireless network into Lake Michigan which permits the Research Vessel Neeskay constant ship to shore communications as far as 16 miles away from the shore.

I was happy to meet both Panjai Tantatsanawong and Wichan Lertwipatrakul after their session. MIAD has a number of design students from Thailand studying in Milwaukee while sending MIAD Faculty to teach in Thailand since 2002.
thailand1Now as high speed academic networks are bridging Thailand to America on Internet2 new possibilities emerge to benefit MIAD.

We have such a strong impact in design from our Thailand students that this advancement can only benefit our students and the emerging Art communities in both Milwaukee and Thailand via UniNet and Internet2.

Internet2 – New Members

I2 new membersAs much as Google’s membership gains the biggest headlines (great by the way) and gets the biggest buzz, I believe OSTN‘s membership will be a very important benefit for college students around the country (especially at MIAD) studying and producing video. Exciting times indeed for the production and distribution of film/video for education.
