Catlett TeraGrid Charile Catlett gave a great overview and update to the TeraGrid, a national-scale facility providing “cyberinfrastructure” services. He also hilighted the next big SuperComputer coming to UTexas next year.

Internet2 – Shedd Aquarium

The meeting’s Gala Event reception took place Wednesday night at Chicago’s world-class Shedd Aquarium. It was a great event. Some panoramic VRs to follow….when I find time.

A lot of big news in this session. The one that will capture the imagination of many — the London Symphony Orchestra is now connecting to Ukrena, Europe’s Internet2 and available for new educational and performance based events.

Cleveland is really out in front with a group of performing arts events. The Cleveland Ingenuity Festival has brought many Arts groups together. Milwaukee could benefit from this group, especially with the international film festivals.

NYSERNet is building “Manhattan connects” while Notre Dame is broadcasting theatre performances over Internet2 in China and Italy. This was refreshing to hear and really a call for inspiration.

Internet2 – OSTN Film Festival

The Open Student Television Network OSTN is now an Internet2 affiliate just this week.
This was a great session..and a standing room audience.

This will be a great opportunity for students (as access to tools continues to climb yet pricing continues to drop) opening the door to more and more student artists. This is for the BFA seeking student, not the professional film maker.

Wisconsin is really the great Midwest film resource with the Milwaukee International Film Festival, Madison’s Wisconsin Film Festival. Milwaukee also hosts the European MediaArts Film Festival at MIAD.

Internet2 staff updates: teaching and learning Ann Doyle – Arts & Humanities: European Terena and Ukrena have really moved forward in distance education vs. shared research. HEAnet in Ireland is also emerging in the area of video conferencing.

Science and Engineering Apps updates came from Russ Hobby. Mike McGill also spoke about new Internet2 partnerships in medicine and one new education working group.

James Werle from UWashington and Inernet2 K20 reviewed the K20 Advisory Group.

Outside of a new emerging database, we looked at my graphic design work for the marketing end of the K20 Working Group. Which is now an issue if the text should list the SEGP or use it as a call to action. What do you think:

Fred Winter reviewed NEH grants in Digital Humanities Initiative:

Its really an exciting time in new grants that follow the post 9/11 “We the People” project.
